We use the acneclinicnyc.com website to check the product ingredients. Highly reccomend you do the same before you try out any new products. You can copy and paste the ingredients of the product of interest into their website and they will let you know if it has pore-clogging ingredients. It is free.

Cleansers: the La Roche-Posay Toleriane Purifying Foaming Facial Cleanser can be great for combination skin, it is gentle and does not have comedogenic ingredients (pore-clogging ingredients). The La Roche-Posay Toleriane Hydrating Gentle Face Cleanser is another great cleanser that can be more suitable for dry skin and does not have comedogenic ingredients either (based on the ingredient lists as of December 2023). These cleansers are packed with ingredients such as ceramides and has niacinimide which help improve the skin’s barrier and texture, respectively. They are also fragrance free and gentle enough to use in the morning and at night. Also, really take your time to wash your face (1-2 minutes).
Toners & Essences: Some people think toners are a neccesity and others don’t. Whichever side you pick, we think that any product which seem to make your skin better and healthier should be considered in your skincare routine. One toner that could help is the COSRX Alcohol-Free Cica Toner, we love that it is alcohol free, comes in a spray bottle, and has Centella Asiatica which helps soothe the skin. You can spray this directly on your face, avoiding the eye area and then let it dry before your next step, or go right in with the COSRX Snail Mucin 96% Power Repairing Essence. Some people might be allergic to or have a reaction to the snail mucin, so definitely spot test it before use. The CosRX Snail Mucin Power Essence is great for hydrating the skin and repairing the skin barrier. It also gives a non-greasy glow. Tip: apply it on damp skin or right after you spray on a toner or hydrating mist. Also, for all our animal-lover friends, according to the CosRX brand, no snails are harmed in the collection of the snail mucin.
Moisturizers: For our oily or combination-skin friends, the Cosrx Oil-Free Ultra-Moisturizing Lotion is a great gel-texture moisturizer that hydrates and moisturizes the skin without a greasy residue. It sits really nicely into the skin and does not have extra active ingredients like niacinimide or exfoliating acidsthat might irritate the skin. For our dry skin friends, the PURITO Dermide Cica Barrier Sleeping Pack is such a great nighttime or daytime moisturizer. It has ceramides and Centella Asiatica as well. It is super hydrating and leaves the skin supple and glowy. Tip: this is a great moisturizer for anyone using retinoids or Tretinoin, because it really helps the skin barrier and avoids dryness. If you are clog-prone on the cheeks, limiting usage of this product to days when you use active ingredients like retinoids or exfoliants will help avoid getting closed-comedones.
Sunscreen: Finding the perfect sunscreen is like impossible, but we really think the Round Lab Birch Moisturizing Sunscreen is awesome. It is lightweight, super-hydrating and does not leave a whitecast after sinking into the skin. You can find it on Amazon, but we trust Round Lab website best for the purchase of this sunscreen since that is where we have experience purchasing it. In our experience, it does not sting the eye area like other sunscreens. It only stings when you get it into the eye itself.
Other products and tips we love to include into skincare routine: Exfoliants, and retinols (nighttime only)! Including some kind of retinol like Adapalene or prescribed tretinoin into your routine can be helpful for anti-aging and avoiding dark spots, and getting an overall even skin tone. Just be sure to always wear sunscreen in the day time, no matter what the weather is (sunny, bloomy or rainy). For exfoliants we like Paula’s Choice Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant and Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant Exfoliator. These can be used at least once a week. Tip: Do not pop inflamed pimples, ice them until they reduce in size. If you have to pop a pimple, use clean hands and two Q-tips to pop them. Pimple Patches help to not pick at pimples. Be kind to your skin and do not overuse actives, if your skin is just not doing well, keep it simple: cleanse, moisturize, leave it be for a while. Eat healthy, workout, drink water and sleep well. STAY BEAUTIFUL :)
